Make Your Garage Door Look Like A Mausoleum For Halloween

If you are someone that loves to decorate your house for Halloween, but is having a hard time figuring out what to do with your garage, consider making the door look like a mausoleum. When you go into a mausoleum, all you see is the front of the tombs where the deceased are kept. You can create this look using craft materials, without causing any damage to your garage door. Use the following guide to transform your garage door quickly and easily.

Supplies Needed

  • Twelve 12" x 12" x 1" Gray Foam Sheets
  • Black Acrylic Paint
  • A Sponge
  • A Black Permanent Marker
  • Peel-and-Stick Magnets for Metal Garage Doors
  • Double-sided Tape for Wooden Garage Doors
  • Paper Plates
  • A Sheet

Make the Foam Look Aged

Lay the sheet flat on the ground and place the pieces of foam on the sheet. Squeeze paint onto the paper plate and dip the sponge into the paint. Dab the sponge onto another plate to remove any excess paint from the sponge. Press the sponge against the edges, corners, and sides of the foam blocks to give them an aged look. Repeat the process for all of the blocks.

Label Each Sheet

Add a name and date of death to each block. Some people choose to make up funny names of the deceased or add nicknames of people that they know will see the garage door when it is finished. Use the black marker to write the name, but do not push too hard with the marker, as the foam can be damaged relatively easily.

Add Magnets or Tape to the Foam

Peel and stick the magnets onto the back of each foam sheet. Position the magnet at the top and bottom of each sheet as close to the middle as you can get it. This allows the weight to be easily distributed so that you do not have to worry about the sheets falling off the garage door as it opens and closes. If you are working with a wooden garage door, you need to use double-sided tape in place of the magnets to keep the sheets in place.

Position the Sheets

The foam sheets need to be positioned evenly on the garage door to create the look that you want. There will be four rows of sheets from top to bottom and four columns of sheets from side to side of the garage door.

When Halloween passes, you can easily pull the foam sheets away from the garage door. Store them in a box in the attic or garage until the next Halloween rolls around and you can use them again. This is an affordable decoration option that is unique and fun.
